"Medaka Box" colored edition is just great.

I DO recommend "Medaka Box" colored edition.

What is "Medaka Box"?

When I was a junior high school student, "Medaka Box" was on Weekly Shonen Jump. I have been a fun of this manga since then. (Don't guess how old I am...)

Actually, anime of this manga was produced. In spite of this fact, this manga is not so popular though it is just my feeling.

"Medaka Box" is co-work of Ishin Nishio and Akira Akatsuki. Nishio wrote the story, and Akatsuki made the illustration. The characters are very like Nishio's other works such as Monogatari series. They appeal to anime/manga fun bluntly. There are also a lot of metafictions about that appeal in the story.

I may not a big fun of this manga since I have never watched the anime and supplemental novels. I just read the manga. Of course, I bought the all volumes of this manga. I had paper comics and have digital comics.

Why is "Medaka Box" color edition great?

This is just because the graphic is awesome. I introduce how it is awesome below.

Significance of color in Japanese manga

Japanese manga is ordinarily illustrated in black and white. They have few full-color pages. This is because many Japanese manga magazines are published in black and white. The magazines such as Weekly Shonen Jump and Weekly Shonen Sunday have few colored pages. Despite cost of colored pages, colored pages do not attract readers. Unlike American comics like Marvel, manga illustrated in black and white is ordinal for Japanese manga funs.

Popular manga can get full-color pages in magazines. When they get colored pages, the first two or four pages in the chapter are colorful. Therefore, manga readers can notice the manga is popular when it has full-color pages on the magazine.

Though original manga is illustrated in black and white, color comics have all colored pages. Only digital editions are available for colored comics.

I was grateful when I found "Medaka Box" colorful on Weekly Shonen Jump because I could learn that it was popular and recommended by editors. So, "Medaka Box" colored edition evokes such grateful memories.

"Medaka Box" color edition looks original

Colored edition of Jump Comics are in sale. In most cases, original creators do not seem to be working on painting them. Original creators of "One Piece" and "NARUTO" must be so busy so that they have no time for painting. I found a digital-content company which might be related to colored edition of Jump Comics. I guess designers of the company are painting original black and white manga for colored edition.

However, "Medaka Box" colored edition looks original. All pages are like painted by Akatsuki, the original illustrator. I cannot distinguish original color pages on Weekly Shonen Jump from pages painted for the color edition. As "Medaka Box" could be illustrated digitally, it was easy for painters.

Special effect and back ground color are important for significant expression in manga. Akatsuki was very good at using special effects. He also had a good sense in back ground color. Therefore, "Medaka Box" colored edition which is like painted by Akatsuki is amazing.

Conclusion

I recommend "Medaka Box" colored edition without mentioning its story. Of course the story written by Nishio is attracting like his other works. Please read it!

"Medaka Box" colored edition is not available in English.
